D&G and Borders both introduce revenue-saving measures
Council tax in both the Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway will rise by 8.5% for the year 2026/27. This uplift is higher than the rate of inflation and is likely to be met by people with dismay at a time of a cost-of-living crisis. However people may also understand that services need to be protected.
Scottish Borders Council met on Thursday 19th February to agree its budget while Dumfries and Galloway Council met last Thursday 26th February. A report to Scottish Borders Council set out information about the additional £20 million pounds provided by the Scottish Government to local authorities in the local government settlement. This will provide an additional estimated £0.25 million for Scottish Borders Council.
